My Morning Routine (+ How To Be A Morning Person)

For as long as I can remember, I have been far from a morning person! In fact, completely the opposite…until now. I can’t lie, it’s nice to have a lie in (no pun intended) and amble about your day but I felt like I was wasting time and gradually becoming more unhealthy by the day. So, I decided to take it upon myself to become a morning person – you’ll be glad to know it’s going pretty well so far! I thought I’d share my everyday morning routine as well as my most effective techniques that I used to snap out of the night-owl habits – in hopes to help any of you that can relate. It’s not life changing but it’s for sure A LOT healthier than before!

Sidenote: Before we get into the pictures – yes I’m wearing makeup when I’m supposed to be waking up but I don’t look like a glowing goddess yet so please bare with me guys 🙂

Right, do you want the bad news or the good news first? Well the bad news is that the feeling you get when your dreaded alarm goes off at 7:30 and you just want to be swallowed into a hole rather than facing the cold British weather will not go away – especially not at first. However, eventually you get used to it and believe me when I say that once you’re actually up it’s not so bad haha! One thing to consider is that I personally (and I’ve found others who relate) find that the later it gets, the harder it is to get up. Once that clock turns 9, I may as well cross another day off my calendar because there’s no hope for me getting up for at least another 3 hours!

After I’ve avoided pressing the snooze button one too many times, I try to bare the outside for some fresh air. This is a crucial part for me, even if it’s -1 in the middle of December when you might feel as if you’ll turn into a literal icicle…get outside! It’ll wake you up 10x faster than a cosy cuppa in bed – which I must admit sounds 10x more tempting.

Next, of course, is washing my face and getting rid of any makeup I accidentally missed the night before. Granted, I probably look a whole lot worse with nightmarish eye bags on a regular day. (I have an upcoming blog post on my favourite skin care products and how I use them so make sure you’re around for that if you’d be interested!) This part often involves my cat watching by my side, waiting for his brekkie! Which brings me onto my own breakfast. I’ve always been a quick bowl of cereal and out the door kind of gal but with changing my morning habits, I’ve changed my breakfast diet! As I have more time to make something more substantial, I chose porridge as my new go-to! Topped with some of your favourite fruit, porridge is incredibly good for you as it contains so much fibre, vitamins and protein. Not to mention that it’s been proven to improve your skin, that’s a game changer right? You’d think I was being sponsored by every porridge company known to man…but it really is that good and tastes miles better than it looks I swear! Morning Routine, How To Be A Morning Person, healthy eating, breakfast, fitness, regime, health, yoga, foods, meals, tea, fruit, raspberries, strawberries, oatmeal, porridge, banana, well being, flat lay, blog photos, inspiration, post ideas, instagram, lifestyle photography blog blogger

And a quick shout out to my first of 1000 cups of tea for the day because if there is only ONE thing you should know about me, it’s that I drink tea religiously. I don’t think I’ve gone a day since I turned 6 where I haven’t had a nice cuppa beside me. If I’m being honest, I should at least try to branch out my types of tea because without a single thought, I head straight for the english breakfast!

As most typical morning routines go, my next task is to drag myself to the gym or if I’ve had a long night of blogging til 3 am, I’ll do some good ol’ yoga in the garden! It won’t come as a shock to you when I say I’m not the most gym-lad-on-weights-and-strange-pulling-machines-that-look-like-some-sort-of-builders-tool. You’ll catch me on the treadmill and if you’re lucky, I’ll put the incline on hahah. Baby steps Phoebe…baby steps!

I’d love to finish this off with some exciting plans that I do for brunch but I usually just play with my cat and then set myself up at my desk with (you guessed it) a good brew and my laptop ready to write the next blog post. I feel like posting this is going to help me commit to the routine so as well as helping all of you lovely lot, it’s helping me too! A win-win! Let me know what things you do to wake yourself up for the day ahead!

I need to change my thought process. At night i get paranoid that i’m losing time on things like working on my pinterest or blog etc but what i don’t realise is that if i wake up earlier i have that extra time! It sounds much more healthier for me to sleep earlier and wake up earlier and get a few little tasks done then, probably whilst i’m cosied up in bed with a cuppa – at least i’d be awake early though, right?

    loved reading this!!

I’m exactly the same, I’d spend hours into the early morning trying to finish things while my eyes were half shut! When I’m up at a sensible time though, I feel way more productive! Thank you x

Lovely pictures, as always! I’ve embraced the fact that I’ve been a morning person all along and it has made my life so much better, haha. I have to wake up early-ish for work anyway, so I try not to stray too far from that wakeup time on the weekend. If I’m feeling lazy, a hot shower is like caffeine for me. It’s funny how everyone’s routine is so different, isn’t it? 😀

Thank you!! That’s so good, I wish I was naturally an early-waker! Exactly, one of the main differences I find is a showering at night or morning – I’m definitely an at night gal! x

Nice post! I am also trying to be a morning person although some times Netflix in the evening doesn’t let me get to bed early!

I wish I was a morning person – I struggle to get up before 10am right now! I’m hoping I’ll be able to change that this month, but I’m not counting on it. I’ll definitely give your tips a go though!

  7. Andrea says:

I’m definitely a complete night owl so this post will come in handy, as I need to try and become more of a morning person! Love your photography too, the porridge looks delicious with all the fruit 😍 x

  8. Johnny says:

Waking up early morning is globally the worst thing, your sleepy eyes feel like they’re burning so much when you face that bathroom mirror and before that the trudge to that bathroom 🙁

What I’ve started to do with early morning routines is set my alarm one hour or half an hour earlier than I intend to get out of bed/wake up is trick my mind into thinking that I have been awake for a while (e.g. set alarm for 6am and wake up for 7am), thus making it easier and quicker to start my routine. I’m not sure if this works for everyone but I find that it does the job for me.

These are great tips. I’ve never been a morning person but I’m getting better at it the older I get. The only thing that gets me out of bed on a cold, dark morning is a nice, hot cup of coffee! I also find that brushing your teeth straight away helps to wake you up, as does opening the curtains the second you get out of bed. And a good workout then sets me up for the rest of the day and makes me so much more productive!

“once you’re actually up it’s not so bad” – THIS. It’s true isn’t it, there are not much left to regret when we’ve done every chores in the early morning, then we look at the time and it’s only 11 a.m. Haha. Great post and tips, hun! x Ain

  13. Lupe says:

School has made me a morning person, I can’t sleep past 9 am anymore, even if I don’t have to get up until 10. I start my morning by washing my face, brushing my teeth but I don’t always make breakfast, which is something I want to work on. Also, I am super into your pictures, I love the editing bit with the lines, it makes it so much more unique. Can’t wait to see what your Instagram is like 👏🏽

    • Phoebe Rose says:

Yes!! If there’s one thing school is enjoyable for, it’s getting your sleep pattern good haha! Breakfast is my favourite meal of the day – I can’t miss it! Thank you so much lovely!! x

Loved this post! I’m trying to be more of a morning person lately – trying being the operative word! I’ll try using some of your tips to get me up and ready in the morning

  15. Routine certainly helps with the early morning starts, when I was working from home I found it so hard to get up early and actually find the motivation to go about my day. I still work from home but now I work part-time too, starting at 6:30am which means getting up at 4:45am but having that reason to get out of bed has really helped, luckily I finish by 10:30am leaving me with the rest of the day to tackle my other jobs. Thanks for sharing your early morning routine.

    • Phoebe Rose says:

It does and it helps mentally too! Working from hard is a difficult one, you have to find the motivation yourself but that sounds great – I suspect you get a good early night after those morning too! x

  16. Lena Dee says:

Lol you’d think I don’t have to be up early for work but I’m really not a morning person 😂😩 but you’re right once you’re up and maybe after 2 hours it’s not so bad 😂 and honestly your afternoon adventures sound quite nice, I’d gladly enjoy a cat’s company and time to blog more. Great routine, I’ll try harder at being morning person 😩

Love the photos Phoebe, you look so angelic. I too am a morning person, I like having the whole day to be productive and “once you’re actually up it’s not so bad haha!” – SO TRUE!

  18. Florence says:

I am in love with the way you style the photos! I go between being a night person and a morning person – I love waking up early to get the whole day!

  19. Aaliyah says:

Such a lovely post and your photos are gorgeous! Being a morning person is so hard but I’m trying to be, when you wake up in a good mood the day just seems to be better! X

  20. Dalal says:

I have the most unhealthiest habit of sleeping super late (like 3am late) and then, understandably, not being able to wake up as early as I want to. It definitely does feel like you’ve wasted a whole day! I looove porridge, have you tried it with nutella and banana? SO GOOD but all the sugar probably takes away from the healthiness of it haha. Love love love your photos 🙂

Mine used to be awful too, up until 5 then sleeping all day which is what made me try to change it! Ohhhh I haven’t actually, I’m sure one cheat day doesn’t count though right?😏 Thank you!! x

  21. Karolina says:

I’m not too bad in terms of getting up early but I could definitely work on making my morning much more enjoyable! I am exactly the same as you about the tea – can’t go a day without it! Great post and you look gorgeous as always x

It’s almost like a comfort thing now 😂 Thanks so much lovely xx
